Alcuni progestogenic agenti possono elevare al plasma LDL e/o abbassare i livelli di HDL, anche se i dati sono stati incoerenti. I pazienti con preesistenti iperlipidemia può richiedere un più attento monitoraggio durante la terapia progestinica, e le regolazioni di conseguenza nel loro ipolipemizzanti regime.

Anche se gli estrogeni sono generalmente favorevoli effetti sui lipidi al plasma, tra cui un aumento delle HDL e diminuisce i livelli di colesterolo totale e LDL, sono stati anche associati con significativi aumenti i livelli di trigliceridi, soprattutto se alti dosaggi utilizzati. Grave iperlipidemia è noto che a volte causano pancreatite. I pazienti con preesistenti iperlipidemia può richiedere un più attento monitoraggio durante la terapia con estrogeni, e le regolazioni di conseguenza nel loro ipolipemizzanti regime.
