L'uso di selettivi inibitori del reuptake della serotonina (Ssri) è stato raramente associato con iponatremia, a volte secondario per lo sviluppo della sindrome da inappropriata secrezione di ormone antidiuretico (SIADH). Questi eventi sono stati generalmente reversibile dopo l'interruzione della terapia con SSRI e/o intervento medico. SSRI-correlati iponatremia può essere più comune negli anziani pazienti di sesso femminile e quelli che sono volume-esaurito o in trattamento concomitante terapia diuretica. Attenzione può essere giustificato quando SSRI terapia viene somministrata in questi pazienti e i pazienti con preesistenti iponatriemia o SIADH. Gli elettroliti del siero, in particolare sodio e di BUN e plasmatici di creatinina, devono essere monitorati regolarmente.
