Consumatore:

Gli antistaminici hanno spesso attività anticolinergica, per cui i pazienti anziani sono particolarmente sensibili. La terapia con antistaminici, deve essere somministrata con cautela, se non a tutti, in pazienti con preesistenti condizioni che sono suscettibili di essere aggravato da attività anticolinergica, come ritenzione urinaria o di ostruzione; glaucoma ad angolo chiuso, non trattata ipertensione intraoculare, o incontrollato glaucoma ad angolo aperto primario; e apparato gastrointestinale disturbi ostruttivi. Convenzionale, di prima generazione, antistaminici come etanolammine (bromodiphenhydramine, carbinoxamine, clemastine, dimenhydrinate, difenidramina, doxylaminum, phenyltoloxamine) tendono a mostrare notevoli effetti anticolinergici. In contrasto, il più recente, relativamente nonsedating antistaminici (ad esempio, cetirizina, fexofenadina, loratadine) hanno riferito bassa minima attività anticolinergica a norma dosaggi raccomandati e possono essere alternative adeguate.
